Cable car design

Cable car design was a challenge brought to my engineering class. The challenge was to make some sort of car, or thing where we had to transport 4 gummy bears from one part of a line that was put in our classroom, to another. The materials we were given were the 4 gummy bears, a balloon, a paper, a small rope, . The first step in the process of making a cable car was to first come up with a design. We first started sharing out ideas, the first one being to make the paper into a cup, put the four gummies there, then with the rope put it in the fishing rope or line that was setup in the middle of the class, and then we would fill up the balloon with air and just let the air go and see if it could move the cup, but we decided to go with another idea which is the one that we drew.

Design drawing brainstorm

In the design drawn, we put the four gummy bears inside the balloon, then we would fill the balloon up with air, from there we would tape the rope on top of the balloon, and we would put the rope in the fishing line. Our last step was to untie the ballon, see how far it would go. Our design was a failure as the balloon only moved a little bit. I think that if I and my team were to design this project again, we would not put the 4 gummy bears inside and we would find a way for the ballon not to move side ways, because if the ballon didn't move sideways and instead it moved staright, maybe the air would be enough for the balloon to make it to the other side of the fishing line if the 4 gummy bears weren't inside it.
